The Heian Imperial Palace (平安皇居) is the usual residence of the Empress of Yamatai. It is a large complex located in the Hinoki district of Kōjimachi in Heian, and contains several buildings including the main palace, some residences of the Imperial Family, an archive, museums, administrative offices, and the headquarters of the Imperial Royal Guards.
The Imperial Palace is located in the northern part of Kōjimachi, on the shore of Lake Tsuru, surrounding the old Kurotake Castle. The total area including the gardens is 2.15 square kilometres. The main palace is located on Takenoko Hill, with Kurotake Castle located adjacent to Lake Tsuru. Some of the gardens and museums are open to the public.
