Meriad, a unitary state, is divided into two administrative levels: Regions (singular Meriadni rymd, plural rymder) and counties (singular Meriadni kommun, plural kommuner). These administrative divisions form the basic electoral, economic, and political subdivisions of the country.

The first-level subdivisions of Meriad are the county's regions, which are further divided into 381 counties. The primary role of each region is to serve as an electoral district for seats in the Hall of Jarls. Regions are given a minimum representation of five Jarls, with the number increasing dependent upon population. The region with the most number of representatives is currently Duvnafjördur, with 19 seats. In addition to this crucial role, Meriadni regions serve as military and economic divisions of the country, and are tasked with the maintenance of major public services, such as veteran support programs and major public roadways, as well as overseeing the collection of taxes for both the national government and regional government.

The government of each administrative region is divided into two parts: the Governor, who is appointed by the king, and the Administrative Council, the members of which are elected popularly by the constituents of each region. The majority of each region's power is exercised by the Administrative Council, and the position of Governor is mainly ceremonial.

Brannsund

Brannsund (BRN) takes its name from the Brannskipet (Meriadni: Fire Ship) sound that forms its northern coast. The body of water is known for the high concentration of Viking ship burial sites along its shores, and the continuing traditional ship-burnings that take place every year. The largest city and administrative capital of the region, Port Bismuth, is the second-largest port in the country, and an estimated 25% of the country's annual imports and exports pass through the port.

Duvnafjördur

Duvnafjördur (DUV) is the smallest of the 21 regions in size, but has by far the highest population density. The City of Duvnafjördur, the largest city in the country, takes up a significant portion of the region. The city, which has an estimated population of 1.813 million, accounts for roughly one sixth of the country's population, and serves as Meriad's largest economic center.

Geographically, the region of Duvnafjördur is very contiguous, mainly as a result of its small size. The majority of the population is within the city limits of Duvnafjördur, which is situated on the west side of the region, and the fjord-facing areas of the region are extremely lightly populated by comparison. Despite its population, the region has the single smallest number of National Guard personnel employed. This is primarily due to very restrictive enlistment standards and the lack of space for expansive military establishments. The taxes in the region are also below the national average, contributing heavily to this fact by limiting the available funds for equipment procurement and maintenance.

Eyjanfjalla

Eyjanfjalla (EYJ) is the least contiguous administrative region in the country, as it is entirely composed of a group of islands off of the north-west coast of the country. Eyjanfjalla is home to the oldest continually inhabited settlement in the country, the town of Francifjord, Meriad.
