The Great Zaesir of Alvia is the individual sovereign of the Alvish Intersolar Imperium. The Zaesir possesses supreme authority over the imperial bureaucracy, appoints the leaders of each court council, and is also the supreme commander of the Alvish Starfleet and the other armed forces of the Imperium. The Zaesir also shares lawmaking power with the Volthaug, possessing the ability to issue celestial decrees in certain circumstances and with regards to certain matters. Meanwhile, the Zaesir exercises his executive power through instruments known as normal instructions.

The Zaesir cannot be removed from his position, except by a unanimous vote of the Volthaug. Should the Zaesir be removed from power this way, a new ruler must be elected by the College. If the Zaesir is not removed, the line of succession proceeds according to the Gottygg, following traditional notions of meritocracy: the Radiant Curia is responsible for selecting the most intellectually skilled children as heirs.

The current Zaesir is Gildomir I, who usurped the throne from his wife and predecessor, Zaesir Lo'vala II in 512 AC. His presumed successor is his youngest son, Alaxir Aldigard. He and his family are the founders and patriarchs of House Kaisthurm, the youngest house to ever claim the Ruby Throne.
