The Royal Marine Service of Meriad is Meriad's amphibious light infantry force, and is the smallest branch of the Armed Forces of Meriad. The Royal Marines were formed in 1769 to serve as the Royal Navy's infantry troops, a role which they served until the Royal Marine Act of 1885, which gutted the service. Since then, the Royal Marines have served primarily as an honor guard on Meriadni combat vessels, as well as the ceremonial guards for the Meriadni government as a whole. The only formally combat-ready unit in the Royal Marines is the 14th Division, stationed in Skötafell, which serves as the Royal Marines' helicopter unit.
The Meriadni Royal Marine Service, as a branch of the Armed Forces of Meriad, is formally commanded by the reigning Monarch of Meriad, presently King Sketli. Practically, it is commanded overall by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General Ebba Isaksson, and in particular by the Commanding General of the Royal Marines, presently Major General Landyn Mueller.
