Treaty of Mutual Defensive Cooperation

From Ordic Encyclopedia

The Treaty of Mutual Defensive Cooperation is a military assistance treaty signed by Chisei, West Kuiju and Yamatai on 8 April, 1985, following the Kuijuan War. Concentrating primarily on the defence of Chisei and West Kuiju from the perceived threat of expansionism from Arshavat and East Kuiju, the treaty also approves the full-time deployment of military forces within each others' borders for defensive purposes. Under the stipulations of the treaty, all involved nations are to immediately come to each others' aid in the event of an attack, though are not obliged to join if any signatory state commits the offensive action.

As part of its Treaty obligations, Yamatai has deployed a full-time expeditionary force within Chisei with the aim of bolstering local defences, the Yamatai Mainland Defence Force, a controversial move in itself.

History

In 1977, HECO invaded East Kuiju.

Criticism

The Treaty of Mutual Defensive Cooperation has come under fire from various groups in both Chisei and Yamatai. In Chisei, it is viewed by some groups as a neo-imperialist front to enable an occupation of Chisei by Yamataian troops, with the YMDF acting as the vanguard for the takeover. 27% of Yamataians view the Treaty and the YMDF as a waste of taxpayers money, and 48% believe Chisei should take a more active role in ensuring its own safety. The Treaty of Mutual Defensive Cooperation and the YMDF are often brought up by opposition parties during Yamataian elections.

One disparaging term used for the Treaty is the Treaty of Mutual Defensive Cooperation and Perpetual Death to the Reds and May They Kneel and Buy Our Moe Anime Girl Figurines, coined by Yamataian opposition politician Sato Hiroshi in his 2010 campaign speech.
