Yashima
Yashima (八島) is linguistic and political region that typically consists of the two Yashiman-speaking countries, Chisei and Yamatai. Shojin is also sometimes considered to be a part of Yashima. In a strictly geographic sense, the concept of Yashima usually refers to the area in north-west Escar including both the Yashiman archipelago and Chisei. Yashima can also be used to refer to the abstract concept of the shared cultural homeland of all Yashiman people, and is more often encountered in this context.
Though the majority of the Yashiman population resides in Escar, large migrant populations in Achkland, Dai Hoa, Sahil, and elsewhere also exist, with the idea of Yashima as a shared cultural homeland bridging the global diaspora. Yashiman nationalism is a nationalist ideology that asserts that all Yashiman people are a single nation, and celebrates Yashiman culture, language, and religion. This has developed into Izoku Kyowa, a radical pan-Yashiman ideology ideology followed by certain fringe groups in Escar that supports the unification of Chisei and Yamatai, in order to form a singular "Yashiman State" for various purposes, commonly related to racial politics.
Throughout history, the definition of Yashima has fluctuated along with the shifting definitions of the "Yashiman race". At its greatest extent during the era of military rule in Yamatai, Yamataian scientists largely acting on political motives declared that all Escaric races were related to the Yashiman race, in an attempt to Yamatai's war effort against the rest of the continent in the Second Escar-Varunan War.
